As the title says: coming soon – National Pet Day! One special designated day to celebrate our best pet buddies and a day to rescue a new pet buddy on April 11th every year! These creatures come in all sizes and species and give us a ton of comfort, pleasure, and joy. Be it a bird, cat, dog, fish, amphibian, lizard, turtle, snake, or a larger animal like a horse or farm animal, we fall in love with them and they become our best friends.

National Pet Day is noted to show our affection and love for our pets but also as a day to adopt the many shelter pets throughout our country waiting for us to provide them a home. There are actually quite a number of pet celebration days throughout the year for individual species, even for particular breeds. And the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) created a full week to celebrate our pets back in 1981: the first full week of May. They report that “…not only can pets steal our hearts, but they also contribute to overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels”. Of course, we honor our pets pretty much every day with our attention and care.

Notice of New Pet Food Regulations

Pet Age reported recently on the 2015 Association of American Feed Control Officials’ project to modernize Pet Food Model Regulations so as to improve consumers understanding of pet food labeling and bring it more in line with human food labeling. The Pet Food Institute, whose members constitute the majority of dog and cat food and treat manufacuturers in the USA, is supporting a new federal bill to update and modernize the labeling regulations: H.R.7380. The bill will give centralized federal oversight by the FDA instead of inconsistent state interpretations and decisions. Read more on this new bill here.
