In all parts of the country there are many pet happenings occurring during our month of May. You can Google any of the below mentioned events for your particular area and click the links provided for more info. So let’s begin.
National Pet Month
To start May is National Pet Month to celebrate all the benefits pets bring to our lives. If you don’t have a pet…dog, cat, bird, fish, bunny, horse, ferret, lizard, turtle, frog…we can go on and on – it’s time to adopt a furry, feathered, or scaly friend to bring more laughter, fun, and love to your abode.
See our posts on Helping defenseless pets and History and meaning of ‘change a pet’s life day’.
Chip your Pet Month
It is time to Chip your Pet. Microchip your pet this month in case of loss. An especially good time to consider with all the fireworks and hullabaloo soon arriving on the 4th of July!
Pet Cancer Awareness Month
May has also been dubbed Pet Cancer Awareness Month by the Blue Buffalo Foundation for Cancer Research. This company’s brand ambassadors will be busy raising donations to fight pet cancer at your local pet store.

Be Kind to Animals Week
The first week of May has been named Be Kind to Animals Week by our American Humane Society…so fitting for National Pet Month. This is something to carry on throughout the year, every day, always.
National Pet Week
National Pet Week starts the first Sunday of the Month. A great time to spend extra time with your pet in training, walking, or any particular activity they enjoy. See my post on USA-made pet products to spoil your best pet friends and do it.
Purebred Dog Day
May 1st is National Purebred Dog Day. If that applies to your furry friend, it is, indeed, their special day.

Mayday for Mutts
The first Sunday in May is designated Mayday for Mutts. A day to celebrate their mixed breeds, sometimes referred to as ‘designer dogs’.

Puppy Mill Action Week
The second week in May is dedicated to Puppy Mill Action. This is our time to write and call our local representatives to shut down puppy mills. It is also a great time to adopt or rescue a puppy in a shelter.
National Dog Mom’s Day
May 11th is National Dog Mom’s Day. Your day to celebrate and show off your canine, Moms.

World Turtle Day
May 23rd is World Turtle Day. With so many turtles losing their fight for life from air, sea, and trash pollution, this is a great time to donate your time or dollars to help save our turtle population.
Memorial Day
May 26th is our Memorial Day this year. This day is when we honor our military veterans for their valor in keeping our country safe. It’s a good day to remember our K-9 veterans as well. And it is our start to summer activities so to keep your animals safe from loss and injury see some safety tips here.

That adds up to eleven different designated celebrations for our pets throughout the month of May. And there will be doggy dashes, and kitty parades, and much more. Check them all out while being extra attentive to your loving pets.
Funny Animal Videos
From Big Geek Daddy enjoy a philosophical dog.
Second in line is a wild boar and a dog as best friends.
Last we have deception in the rain forest.
