April is the special month to join with ASPCA in preventing cruelty to animals. So how can we help defenseless pets? ASPCA lists many ways we can help to alleviate and eliminate cruelty to animals.
Adopt

The very best way is to always consider adoption. Give a forever home to a pet in your local shelter and encourage others to do the same on social media. Check out my post on adoption vs. purchase in Rescue Shelter Pet or Pet Store Purchase?
Donate
ASPCA suggests starting a fund raising campaign for an important event in your life. Or simply donate to a shelter and the ASPCA to help pets awaiting adoption.
Spread Awareness / Advocate
Promote a conversation with animal lovers about the cruelty of dog fighting arenas. ASPCA has recently designated April 8th as National Dog Fighting Awareness Day. Take a look at their efforts to discourage these types of cruel animal activity named ‘Get Tough Campaign‘. You can get involved by writing your representatives and congress members.
National Help a Horse Day has been set aside by ASPCA for April 26th. If you love horses and wish to participate you can join the celebration at a local horse rescue or community horse event. Or, again, get involved as an advocate to end horse neglect and cruelty.
Follow ASPCA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and spread the word all month on social media to encourage awareness and the need to voice opposition to help end neglect and abuse to animals.
Volunteer / Foster

Volunteer at a shelter nearby or become a foster pet parent. Shelter space is limited and fills up rapidly. Fostering is a great help and definitely in need.
Let us know what actions you are taking or have taken to help spread awareness and to help stop cruelty to animals. We would love to hear of any reactions you receive in response.
