It’s time to remember some summer pet safety tips and read up on some eco-friendly pet information.
Did you know that a study was performed by the Louisiana Office of Public Health and it was found that the temperatures in a dark sedan as well as a light gray minivan parked on a hot, but partly cloudy day, exceeded 125oF within 20 minutes.
Summer Heat
First, and foremost the possiblity of heatstroke for your animal left in an automobile in summer heat. The best remedy is just do not do it! And on that note, I am reposting the pet heatstroke chart showing that it takes only ten minutes in the heat for your car to turn into a vehicle for pet heatstroke.

Too Hot Tarmax = Too Hot for Paws
Another important summer pet safety consideration is paw protection. You can find paw wax online or at your local pet store. Or paw booties are very good to help protect your fur bud’s feet from the hot tarmx in summer.
Dripping Tongues Need for Water
If you are traveling, be sure to pack pet travel bowls for food and for water. The travel water bowl, which folds up for convenience, is great to have on hand for just a festival outing or day trip as well. You can find these quite inexpensive at your local pet store or online.
Fun in the Sun…or Shade
A fun summer item for your furry friends is a splash pool. Or a small bath tub for your feathered guys and girls. And remember to periodically check your fish tank heater setting for your swimming friends.

Eco-friendly Bulletins
Recycling News
Good news for recycling. Pet Smart and West Paw have partnered starting a pilot recycling program for dog toys. West Paw is an USA-made pet product manufacturer out of Montana. They make eco-friendly durable dog toys and pet treats. The pilot program will be available for customers to recycle their old West Paw dog toys in 75 Pet Smart locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington to start.
NASC Quality Seal on pet heatlh/supplements

You may have noticed the yellow National Animal Supplement Council seal (NASC) on pet animal health and pet supplement products at your local pet store. It signifies “…a third party certification that carries with it credibility and understanding that the companies displaying it are responsible suppliers commited to quality, transparency, and continuous improvement within their company and their industry”. This seal cannot be purchased; it must be earned. The company must be a NASC member and apply for the seal which takes at least four months to acquire.
Take notice of the above tips and bulletin news items and enjoy a happy and safe summer with your best pet buddies.
