With Memorial Day coming up shortly, I want to mention all the pet cemeteries throughout the USA together with burial, cremation, and memorial services available in my own local state of Oregon and beyond. Let this act as your guide to pet burial and cremation services. It is hard to lose a pet. They become family and we grieve for them as we do any loved one. A memorial service, online, a formal burial, or just a keepsake urn or piece of commemorative jewelry is helpful in that process. So here are the services I have found in Oregon and a great comprehensive directory across the United States.

Oregon Humane Society

At present they have no burial space but offer Cremation and euthanasia services at their Portland and Salem, Oregon campuses. They also have columbarium areas in both locations for your commemorative urn or plaque.

Green Acres Pet Cemetery & Crematorium

Green Acres is located in Medford, Oregon at the base of Roxy Ann Butte. They provide cremation, memorial services, onsite burials, along with markers, urns, and memorial keepsakes. They provide burials for horses and mules as well as smaller animals.

Treehaven Pet Cemetery

Treehaven Pet Cemetery in eastern Oregon, the Pendleton area, offers burials and services as well as end of life pet memorials and monuments.

Forest Pet Cemetery

The newest pet cemetery is Forest Pet Cemetery in Ashland, Oregon. It is located at the southern Oregon Willard-Witt Ranch and provides markers and burials.

Pathways Pet Memorial Gardens

Pathways Pet Memorial Gardens is located at the Oregon coast in Lincoln City. They offer cremation, and burial services, as well as online memorial sites, headstones, caskets, urns, and keepsake jewelry and sympathy gifts.

Pet Memory Shop

This organization lists a comprehensive pet cemetery directory with just under 150 pet cemeteries throughout the United States. The list is by state and dated to April of 2024. However, their Oregon list is not quite up to date so your best option is to double check what area you may be searching. It is fitting that they keep up this directory since they carry all kinds of pet memorial products.

The most interesting and memorable cemetery mentioned in the USA directory is Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in New York. It is listed as a historic site from the late 1800s with over 80,000 animals’ resting places of just about every group you can imagine.

Services and Commemorative Items

There are many organizations available for cremation, euthanasia, memorial services, and keepsake products. A few in Oregon are mentioned below.

Compassionate Care

This group, headed by a veterinarian, is located in Portland and Oregon City, Oregon. They offer in-home euthanasia for cats and dogs along with cremation services. And, they share complimentary online pet tribute pages for their clients. Compassionate Care also has a mobile vet service operating in the Portland and Salem, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington areas.

Dignified Pet Services

This service operates in the greater Portland, Oregon area as well as the Willamette Valley, Central Oregon, the Coast, and SW Washington. They offer cremation and memorial services for small and for large animals. Keepsake items such as clay or ink paw prints are available here as well.

Forever Friends Pet Cremations

Forever Friends serves southern Oregon and the Rogue Valley. They provide cremation services along with your choice of urn and quite a few commemorative products. One of their many options is their wooden photo urn seen below.

West Coast Pet Memorial

West Coast Pet has services in Portland, Oregon and offers cremation, online memorials, and several memorial products. This company also has several cemeteries located in California, Idaho, Nevada, and Washington.

It is a very difficult time to lose a pet as it is any friend or family member. Some of the services mentioned above can be of great calming assistance in this circumstance. You can Google ‘cremation or memorial pet services’ in your local area and find many such services available. Also see our post on understanding pet cancer.

I have found that writing about my past pets is useful for me. See my post entitled, “Pet Ramblings on all My Pets” and individual stories under the category “My Pets” listed on my Welcome page. I still keep my dog’s, Morgan’s, clay paw print by his picture.

One memorial idea I came across is to make a bucket list for your pet if their health is failing and follow through. Things like taking them to a special dog park, or any off-leash spot, the beach where they can run, or to the water if they like to swim. Or give them special treats, a little ice cream, a new pet for company, a very fun toy, or a new snugly and comfy bed…you get the idea.

For all our lost best pet friends, we love you and will always keep you alive with our memories.

Thanks

  1. Thank you Tricia. It’s comforting to know that there are some options available for me as I’m constantly thinking about my old kitty with health issues.
