Current reviews on pet insurance are from Forbes and Consumer Advocates. Pet insurance is one of the designated pet subjects for the month of September. An unfortunate but very needed policy to protect our loving pets and our pocket books! This is an update from these two companies’ 2023 reviews.
Forbes Advisor & Consumer Advocates Reviews of Pet Insurance Providers
It appears the two reviewing groups differ quite a bit this year but do favor some of the same insurance companies. Forbes has shot Pet’s Best Insurance into their first spot with a 5.0 rating. Their information shows that they surveyed Pet’s Best clients over a period of a year for their satisfaction with the company services with favorable results.
Pet’s Best Number 1 by Forbes
Pet’s Best is top in their evaluation because it “stands out for its competitive prices and robust coverage, including vet exam fees, dental illnesses, behavioral therapy and alternative therapies”.
Both organizations showed Spot as their top pick in 2023. This year it is Consumer Advocate’s second pick still with a 5.0 rating because it “… is more flexible than many of its competitors, offering unlimited annual coverage with no vet restrictions and no upper age limits on insured pets”. Yet, it only has a 4.1 rating this year with Forbes and is their 4th pick.
Healthy Paws Number 1 by Consumer Advocates
Healthy Paws is Consumer Advocates first pick this year with a 5.0 rating, not mentioned last review but in Forbes’ last review. Consumer Advocate favors Healthy Paws as number one saying, “The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.”

Forbes chooses Figo as number 2 with a 4.3 rate, Chewy as their 3rd with a 4.2 rate, Embrace as their 4th with a 4.1 rate, and Spot as their fifth, also with a 4.1 rate. Last review for Forbes only included Spot and Embrace in the top five places.
Consumer Advocates choose Embrace as their 3rd pick, also with a 4.8 rate, down one slot from their last review. Trupanion is chosen with a 5.0 rate as their 4th pick and Fetch as number five, also with a 5.0 rating.
Forbes notes average monthly costs of about $60 for dogs and $32 for cats. They also note important industry events like Nationwide’s June 2024 decision to non-renew their ‘Whole Pet with Wellness’ policies.
With so many choices the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ noted by the two reviewing companies is a good place to start if you are in the market for pet insurance. And, of course, the extras each policy provides. Look at all the options available to fit your particular circumstances and budget.
