See my post of September 2025 showing pet insurance reviews by both Forbes and Consumer Advocates. In searching for current information I find Consumer Advocates gives us information on their top seven. Forbes gives us info on their top ten. All is summarized below with links to both organizations findings for our current year. And October is designated as our National Pet Safety & Protection Month. What better way to protect your pets than with pet insurance?
Forbes 2026 picks
Forbes picks a new name as their best overall pick: THE PRUDENT PET with their top 5.0 score. They note the high satisfaction of this company’s customers as well as comprehensive coverage and competitive pricing.
*PET’S BEST is listed second and best for paying your vet directly and most popular with below average costs. Score: 4.5
**LEMONADE fits in third mention as a cheaper option for a top value scoring company offering many discounts for savings including a multi-pet discount. Their score is a high 4.9.
FETCH is next and noted as best for dental coverage. A very important help for our fur buds. Score: 4.6
***SPOT is mentioned as the best for overall coverage, scoring 4.5.
****MET LIFE is noted with a score of 4.4 as best for discounts. They offer those not offered by other companies, ie, multi pet, military, employer, multi policy, and more.
*****EMBRACE is noted as the best for 24/7 vet help access, with free chat and video access available for your sick fur pal. Score: 4.4.
ASPCA PET HEALTH INSURANCE has a score of 4.4 as being best for preexisting conditions. They will cover a ‘curable’ preexisting condition if it has been 180 days in the clear.
HEALTHY PAWS offers unlimited lifetime payouts for accident and illness. Score: 4.2.
PUMPKIN is listed as best for its multi-pet discount of 10%. Score: 4.1.
Consumer Adocates 2026 picks
***SPOT takes first mention by Consumer Advocates with their comprehensive coverage offering up to 90% cash back. They offer coverage of accident, illness, dental, therapy, and preventative with any licensed US vet. Their top score: 10.
**LEMONADE is chosen as best for first claims, low starting rates as low as $10 per month, and, multiple discounts available. Their score: 10.
TRUPANION is listed as best for paying direct to your vet and no lifetime coverage limits with up to 90% accident & illiness coverage. Score: 9.3.
*PET’S BEST is mentioned next as best with their accident only plans at less than a $1 a day, and your choice of 70, 80, or 90% reimbursement, as well as no upper age limit. Score: 9.1.
****MET LIFE is next and listed as best for comprehensive coverage for accidents and illnesses with multiple reimbursement and deductible choices. Score: 8.9.
PROGRESSIVE is a new name for either group and is picked as best for low priced dog insurance underwritten by Pet’s Best. Price about $15 per month. Score: 8.6.
*****EMBRACE is noted as best for Claim-Free Rewards: a healthy reward for every claim free year. Offers up to 90% reimbursement with coverage for dental, behavioral, and alternative therapy. Score: 8.4.
Note the asterisks showing five of the same companies are rated by both reviewing organizations. See what best fits for your situation, age of your pet, current health problems, your budget, etc. And do check out beneficial discounts that may be available to you before choosing your best insurance option.
