Earth Day is just around the corner on April 22nd officially and celebrated by many on the following Saturday. It’s our time to give special care to our planet and all of its living organisms – plants, animals, ourselves. And, most importantly, it is our time to raise awareness of the need to rid our world of so many man-made toxins and wastes creating havoc in our oceans and on land and in the air we breathe.
Celebratory Actions
There will be celebratory actions all across the country. How can you participate?
By Adding Plants and Trees

It’s time to plant flowers to beautify our surroundings and definitely for the well-being of our bees and birds and butterflies. Trees create our life-giving oxygen, so plant a new tree. Start a community garden to grow veggies and fruits and feed neighbors, your family and friends.
By Cleaning Up
Clean up your local area of debris and trash. Pitch in and do the same with a local community group. If you live near the beach, help to clean it up. Our sea turtles will be happy to have less plastic tossed into their waterways. When you see trash, toss it in a receptacle.
By Recycling

If you have not already started to recycle, do it now. Get a list of what you can recycle from your garbage service and use it! Any less in our landfills is good…paper, plastic, glass, electronics, batteries, needles, paint and more. Find out how and where you can recycle all materials. Donate what is reusable and help out your fellow man with clothing, and blankets.
By Volunteering

Use your talents to help out at an animal shelter, or a local clinic or hospital. Volunteer at a senior center or a school for disabled children, or simply as a coach at a friend’s school. Serve hot meals at a homeless kitchen and assist at your local food bank.
By Changing Choices
This year’s Earth Day emphasis is on ridding our planet of plastic and greatly reducing the manufacturing use of plastic. Start changing over to biodegradable paper. Consider an electric automobile. Think Solar power.
By Continuing Efforts to Save our Environment
Did you know that “more than 20 million people participated in our first Earth Day in 1970. The event shut down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, as people demonstrated and participated in street clean-ups.”
“Earth Day went global in 1990 leading to the passage of the National Environmental Education Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Clean Air Act in the USA later that year.”

“The Paris Agreement, the most significant international climate accord in history, was opened for signature on Earth Day in 2016. The treaty has more than 190 signatories, all of whom agreed to reduce carbon emissions and carry out other actions to reduce climate change.”
Choose your best opportunity to participate in our Earth Day celebration this year and continue on helping to save our planet every day.

Thank you for sharing all the extremely important Earth Day information and suggestions. So important for everyone to be aware of. The videos were fabulous as usual. Of course I loved the dogs, who wouldn’t, but I was mesmerized by the ants and the tiny zebra finch hatchling. Great job!
