With August designated as our Wellness & Immunization Month for Pets, I want to reiterate the need for flea & tick meds as well as other needed parasite prevention meds and vaccinations when due. Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, ear mites, and worms are parasites soon awakened in Spring to pounce on your pets. They are still hovering over our pets with our warmer weather, and along with more outside time and social activities those parasites have a great opportunity to jump onto and try to lodge on or in your best fur buds.
Do check with your veterinarian for any needed heartworm or other needed worming meds. And think about conducting brushing sessions more often during this warmer time of year.
It is important to note that flea and tick products are not interchangeable for our cats and our dogs.
USA-made Flea & Tick Aids
Following are the seven USA-made and sourced flea & tick product manufacturers I have found to date governed by our strict USA manufacturing safety regulations and guidelines.
Adams Pet Care.com
Adams of Phoenix, Arizona has been with us since 1975, a subsidiary of Central Garden and Pet of Wisconsin. They provide both cat and dog products for fleas and ticks in the form of shampoo, a home spray, garden spray, and collars. These products are noted good for puppies and kittens aged 12 weeks and up.
Pure and Natural Pet.com
Pure and Natural of Norwalk, Connecticut provides us with flea and tick products for your doggos. For fleas and ticks they offer USDA certified organic wipes and a spray.
Richard’s Organics by Synergy Labs
Richard’s Organics since 1990 offers us canine flea and tick products. Synergy is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with manufacturing in North Carolina. This group provides canine flea and tick relief in the form of a shampoo and spray for the home and for pet bedding.
Sergeant’s.com by Pet IQ of Idaho
Sergeant’s has been providing pet products for over 150 years and offer flea & tick shampoo, spray, and collars for dogs as well as shampoo, squeeze-on meds, and collars for cats.
Seresto.com by Elanco, an American pharmaceutical company of Indiana
Seresto manufactures in Kansas and their flea and tick collar info reports providing 8 months of protection and are noted as good for puppies aged 7 weeks and up and kitties aged 10 weeks and up.
Skout’s Honor of California
Skout’s Honor is located in Oceanside, California, was established in 2015 and produces “biodegradable, eco friendly, free from harsh chemicals” pet products. They concentrate on dogs for flea and tick help with a home and yard spray, and canine shampoo with a peppermint scent. For cats they do provide a probiotic spray, shampoo, and wipes.
Wondercide of Austin, Texas
Wondercide has been manufacturing plant-based pet products “free of harmful chemicals” in several different scents ince 2009. One is called ‘lemongrass’. Their flea and tick products are good for both cats and dogs. They make different strengths of spray for cats and dogs. Their collars, shampoo, and sprays are reported okay for cats and dogs aged 4 months and up.
Together with the seven USA-made pet product companies mentioned above it would be well to consider their skin grooming products to help your best fur friends’ feel their best in an “itchy” time of year.
