If you are an aquarium fan, note that our National Fish Day arrives every December 18th, just a week before Christmas.
I have maintained a small aquarium for several years now, holding single betas, 2 or more Dwarf African frogs, and single Nerite snails.This Christmas season I have just one Nerite snail, Tigger, in my five-gallon aquarium. She is incredibly just over six years old at this point and still appears to be going strong. Guess I am doing something right!

Yes, aquarium devotees, December 18th is our National Fish Day dedicated celebration. Although this day was actually set for hunters and fishermen I am taking the liberty of applying it to our swimming buds instead.
There are several aquarium goodies you might want to check out to embellish your fish tank and add for your happy swimming buds…all USA-made products too!
USA-made Aquarium Products
A heater is always good to replace usually every year. Aqueon of Wisconsin provides many products including heaters. I have a small five-gallon tank and their mini-sized heater works well and takes up little space in my aquarium. You can also try Tetra of Virginia for higher amp heaters.
You may also need to replace your filter annually. There are several options. Take a look at Marineland by Spectrum Brands of Virginia and Tetra fish products.
For your normal water change, API fish care is a good choice for water care, conditioning and testing products by Mars of Pennsylvania. Aquarium salt and API’s Stress Coat is all I use for my small tank. In case you are new to this aquarium business, see my post on care in “You? Operating an Aquarium?”. And check out some easy pets for your aquarium.
If you have not tried them, Catappa leaves (also called Indian Almond leaves) help keeping nasty critters from your water. I originally found them at Petco, and now find them on Amazon. I use the smaller ones or cut the large leaves into smaller sized leaves and add three or four to my tank after cleaning it.
Some new decor is always an ennui lift for your tank inhabitants. Find fun choices at Zilla rules of Wisconsin and Marineland has plenty to select from including silk plants.
A new food is a welcome decision by API fish care, or Aqueon, or Marineland. You have a great number of types and flavors from which to select for your scaly friends.
