Our National Cat Day is always scheduled just before Halloween, on October 29th. And what better way to celebrate than by making your kitty a happy cat! Canada, Japan, and Russia also celebrate their individual national cat days. It’s time to be considering something festive or in some way special for your feline buddy.
How to Instill a Happy Demeanor in your Furry Feline
Interaction
Interacting with your kitty using play time, and short bursts of training, or just relaxing and petting your fur babe is a great beginning. Have you considered training your cat to walk with you or to do a trick or two? Are you into kayaking? How about your kitty joining you? If your kitty likes car trips, be sure to make their carrier a comfy, cozy hideaway.
Lupine Pet of New Hampshire and Up Country Inc. of Rhode Island both offer USA-made colorful handmade collars, leashes, and harnesses.

VanNess Pets of New Jersey is a great option for a comfy calming USA-made carrier.

Activity
Providing objects to keep your kitty from total boredom is a must. Scratchers are not only good to keep your furniture in good shape but also for your kitty’s nails. Treat puzzles are another fun alone-time activity. An empty box or two or three is great also. If you have the space, a Catico I am sure would be loved. My cat adores sitting out on my deck watching animals and people. A window lounge is another good idea for inside. Lightweight toys to bat about are very fun.
Handsome and sturdy scratchers are made by Imperial Cat of Arkansas. Catamazing of New Jersey supplies their special wand toys with six magnet attached toys to grab off including feathers and more. They also make treat puzzles to occupy your kitty’s time and attention.

Toys for your feline friend abound from DrPussums of Maine for feather teasers, and DuckyWorld of Minnesota for organic cathip toys…and, Americat of Pennsylvania for ‘batable’ felt balls.

For automated toys, Pet Safe, although most are made in China, their automatic chicken keeps my feline girl captivated:

Some fun DIY toy ideas courtesy of Tufts Catnip:
Pyramid – Save 10 toilet paper rolls and staple together from the inside (four in bottom row, three on next, two on next, and one on top). Poke a feather through different ones and watch your cat try to catch it.
Chase toy – Put a bell inside a toilet paper roll. Fold up two ends and secure with tape. Swat it along the floor so your cat sees it and follows suit.
Ball – Press some aluminum foil into a ball and throw across the room. They may like the crinkly sound or challenge your kitty and try to get the ball yourself.
If you would like a fun perch or comfy lounge to spoil your kitty, try Prime Time Petz of Texas.

Health Necessities and Aids
Good natural USA-made and sourced cat food, treats, and fresh water are high on the agenda, including dental treats. Vet check-ups as well as good preventative supplements and a natural litter for their clean litter box are all the best for your kitty’s good health. A good USA-made, natural walnut shell, litter is available through Naturally Fresh of California. It clumps well and is fantastic on odor.

Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine has beneficial articles on cats and other animals. Tufts University ranks as number 13 of universities in our world, reported by US News and World Report. In one of their articles about how often a kitty needs to eat, they say… “several smaller meals are best for adult cats to keep their weight down, rather than one or two larger portions, and for boredom, another way of keeping them engaged.” Tufts points out that cats hunt alone and usually several times daily. They also strongly suggest that your cat, if you have more than one, should be able to eat alone and in their separate space to keep from stressing.

Portland Pet Food of Oregon gives us lip-smacking human grade cat food and treats. And Blue Buffalo for your best retail pet store sold cat food offers good healthy wet and dry kitty food. For treats you can see PrimeTime Petz again for their single ingredient yummies. More delish treats can be had from Shameless Pets of New Jersey offered in chicken, salmon, and tuna. And for helpful dental bites, visit Pet Honesty of Texas for their tasty bites that appear to be helping my kitty’s pearly whites. She also gets low-calorie Greenies dental treats available in pet stores in cat-loved flavors of chicken, salmon, and tuna. In fact, the only treats she normally gets are dental treats and she loves them.

Skouts Honor of California presents USA-made grooming and probiotic supplements for our feline babies. Not to forget Healers Pet Care of Washington with their topical treatments and lightweight anxiety vest and more. On the subject of anxiety, see my post on CBD usage.
Good USA dental products are yours through Oxyfresh of Idaho and True Blue Pets of California in the shape of pet dental gel, a water additive, and dental wipes.

Playmate
Adopting a playmate might just be a fantastic idea. Adoption would certainly be the very best way to celebrate National Cat Day! And your feline friend might just be over the moon. If you decide to do so, see my post “Essential Guide to Adopting a Cat” and “Adopting a New kitty in time for National Cat Day”.
Whatever you do, enjoy National Cat Day with your furry friend to the umpteenth degree. If you adopt or did so during our Cat Adoption Month in June, cheers and yahoo for you!
